Nefesh is a middot-driven community. This means that we, both collectively and individually, are grounded in a practice of intentional focus on the middot, our deepest Jewish values.
Mussar is a Jewish spiritual practice around the middot, engaged in developing an internal and external mindful moral compass and ethical life.
Nefesh Mussar is an emergent, feminist, queer, and embodied approach to this wisdom tradition and spiritual discipline focused on growth and transformation within our inner lives, relationships, communities, and the world around us.
This Spring, please join Spring Mussar with Rabbi Susan Goldberg, a three-part adult learning opportunity on Sundays beginning in April. This series is suitable for folks who are brand new to these concepts, experienced practitioners, and everything in between. Classes are offered both in person and virtually, and will involve text, discussion, journaling, and some movement (for all bodies). This year, there will also be an option to gather in facilitated small groups once a month (facilitated by trained Nefesh Mussar facilitators), to support each other between classes in the ongoing awareness building and practice of our middot.
On March 31, we’ll share a video lesson from Rabbi Susan introducing the middot and Mussar in greater depth, a must-watch for beginners, and recommended viewing for all! After that, we will meet in person in Eagle Rock and on Zoom on the first Sunday of the month starting in April from 10:45am-12:00pm (April 7, May 5, and June 2, 2024).
